What happens after you send it
- It lands on the desk, with the stage you chose, and the consultant who handles that stage reads it first — the determination for a project before the plan is stamped, the file itself for one ready to go, the return letter for one that came back.
- A consultant writes back at the email you gave with where the file sits on the route, what it needs, and what would come back if it went in as it stands. If the honest reading is that you can file it yourself, that is what the reply says.
- If you want the process carried from there, the package is quoted in writing: one fixed fee, nothing billed by the hour. You say go; only then is anything drafted, filed or billed.
What to have ready
- Where the project is on the route — before Scientific Merit Review, stamped but not filed, returned, or mid-study.
- A line about the project: what it is, where the data come from, roughly how many people, and whether identifiers are recorded.
- If the board has written back, the return letter. Most returns are file problems and the fix is precise; the letter tells us where.
You do not need to attach anything to the form. If the consultant needs the file itself, the reply will say what to send and how.

What the free review is not
It is not a submission, a ruling, or a promise. The desk reads your file the way Capella's IRB will and tells you what it needs; Capella's board alone decides the review category and the outcome, and its decision is always its own. The research — the study, the data, the findings — stays yours throughout. What we take off your desk is everything the board touches, from the determination to the approval letter.
